English 3 Course Description and Materials List

English Language Arts 3 is a high school level literature and composition class which prepares 9th and 10th grade students for future academic reading and writing. Students will read and analyze literature from a variety of genres, including poetry, short stories, full-length novels, drama, and non-fiction. In addition, frequent writing opportunities will allow students to become adept at making substantial, well-supported arguments which persuade and inform an audience. Student achievement will also be supported by explicit instruction in grammar, vocabulary, research and documentation, and study skills.

Required Materials:

  • $5.00 copy fee per student
  • Folder for homework and class materials
  • Composition book for in-class writing and note-taking
  • Access to a computer and a printer
  • Additional materials needed: 3 x 5 index cards
  • The text Vocabulary from Classical Roots Book C should be ordered immediately because we will use it during the first week of school.
