Mrs. Montoya
Students will learn the fundamentals of algebra 1, including, but not limited to: rational expressions, expanding & factoring polynomials, linear equations with one and two variables, quadratic equations, and systems of equations, functions, coordinate geometry, and bi-variate data analysis, and more.
Finance Math
Mr. Montoya
Students will learn methods to manage their money and understand how their choices have an impact on their finances. Students will analyze cost of living, housing, and career choices. Topics discussed will be budgeting, balancing your checkbook, types of investing, taxes, insurance, credit cards and credit score, and buying a car. We will also investigate what the Bible says about investing responsibly, and using money as a Christian citizen.
Geometry
TBD
A foundation for geometry is laid through the introduction of undefined terms,
definitions, and incidence theorems. Subsets and measurements are covered. Logic is introduced as a
basis for proofs. Other topics covered are area, circles, space, volume, transformations and symmetry,
and similarity. The course concludes with an introduction to trigonometry.
Practical Physics and Experimental Chemistry 11/12
Mrs. Oliver
This course will provide a unique experience with hands-on physics and experimental chemistry. The year will begin with an introduction to physics and Newton’s Laws. Students will then be introduced to, design, and build six simple machines. The physics portion of the class will culminate with a personal project incorporating the simple machines in a Rube Goldberg machine. The latter portion of the school year will begin with a brief overview of the periodic table, atoms and molecules. We then delve into experimental chemistry with brief introductions to concepts such as decomposition, conductivity, etc. followed by experiments to test said concepts. This will be a customized course that will be heavy on projects, experiments and writing sound lab reports.
Supplies list:
- pencils
- colored pencils
- scientific calculator or Desmos Scientific Calculator app (free)
- occasional at-home supplies not covered by the lab fee (i.e. wood scraps, tape, random items with which to build simple machines)
- BARBAKAM Lab Notebook 100 Carbonless Pages Spiral Bound (Copy Page Perforated) Spiral-bound
Physical Science 9/10
Mrs. Oliver
This class will give the student a robust overview of both chemistry and physics. Beginning with chemistry, we will explore matter and how matter combines to form chemical reactions. Experiments will allow us to test theories and hone our understanding of the scientific process. The physics units will teach us how and why matter and energy move throughout God’s world. Using Bob Jones curriculum as the backbone, this course will be heavy on projects, experiments and writing sound lab reports.

English / Language Arts 3
Mrs. Bingham
English Language Arts 3 is a high school level literature and composition course focusing on the Great Authors of American literature. In preparation for higher level academic reading and writing, students will analyze literature and respond to it through discussion and the written word, crafting their own unique voices in the process. Materials will include novels, poetry, short stories, a play, and non-fiction selections. Students will examine the “architecture of argument” and learn to make an assertion and support it using credible sources within an essay format. Additionally, students will work on grammar, vocabulary and study skills.

Government and Economics
Mr. Craig Friske
We will study Government in the first semester and Economics in the second semester. Studying Government will be very alive and practical while in the middle of a Presidential election cycle!
The textbook covers government from a biblical perspective that will encourage students to appreciate our heritage. It aims to develop students’ critical-thinking skills and demonstrates how knowledge of history and government are crucial for making decisions about issues on the local, state, and national levels. During this course, students will study the foundations of our country, the Constitution, the three branches of government, and political parties and politics.

Fine Art
Mrs. Santiago
Come learn the language of art! We will study the elements of art and design in an exciting progression through Art History, Techniques, and even Career options. We will work on developing good habits for a flourishing art practice. This class is intended to give students an understanding of the elements of art and design, as well as hitting the basics in traditional techniques and mediums that will leave them prepared to succeed in a college environment or just talking about why they do or don’t care for a particular work of art. We will be discussing what art is(and isn’t!), and how it shapes and is shaped by societies throughout history. We will hopefully be taking a couple of field trips to explore behind the scenes at Colibri Gallery/Colibri Art and Framing/ Cura Contemporary in Morgan Hill, and we will be entering their Student Art Show. We will try to have some speakers from the local art community visit the students, and share a day in the life of a working artist.

Bible
Mr. Ron Reynolds
This course is a survey course through the Holy Bible with an emphasis on helping to make the Word of God more tangible and
accessible. The purpose is to enable the student to develop a comfort with studying the Holy Bible and learning about the God
of creation, His attributes, and His Ways. We know that the Bible is spiritually discerned so we will also focus on helping
students to understand this concept and to recognize the Holy Spirit as the Helper that Jesus promised in John 14:16.
The course will begin with an introduction to the Holy Bible drawing from its text to better understand the nature, purpose,
and sufficiency of His Word. This will be followed by an overview of the structure of the Bible outlining the constituent books,
types, and testaments. From there the students will learn a variety of Hermeneutic approaches settling on a preferred model
for the remainder of the course year. Finally, the introductory section will culminate with a practical understanding of
blueletterbible.org and its uses to better understand the meaning, context and application of challenging concepts and
vocabulary within the text of scripture.
