English / Language Arts 2

The goal of this class is to incrementally build skills in writing, vocabulary, grammar, and literature. Writing goals include writing summaries and outlines, identifying and creating topic sentences and thesis statements, paraphrasing, and editing.We will read at least 2 books, a play by Shakespeare, and several short stories and poems. A book and supply list can be found at the link below.

I hope that I can effectively convey to your students my enjoyment of math and my passion for learning. My favorite teachers growing up were those who were knowledgeable and who seemed to sincerely enjoy what they taught. That is my goal this year. Math is fun, engaging, stimulating, and deeply important for our kids’ development. I am truly excited to take this pre-algebra journey with the students of Vine this year.

7/8 History: Renaissance and Reformation

Students will navigate through one of the most fascinating and transformative periods in history – the Renaissance and Reformation. In this class, we’ll explore the dramatic cultural rebirth of the Renaissance, a time when art, science, and literature advanced across Europe. Students will view the works of influential artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, and learn how innovations in thought, technology, and education reshaped society.
7/8 Science: General Science

Welcome to General Science! This year, we will learn about many science
topics – from the history of science to environmental science. Each module
will include labs and hands-on activities to help students understand the world around them.
6/8 Jr. High Bible

This class is meant to challenge the student to think. We live in a world of mixed messages and we have a lot of questions. The Word of God will stand the test of time and is much needed in each person life. Each quarter will be a stand alone.
1st quarter is “World View vs Biblical View” The book of Ecclesiastes will our text as it offers insight to a long ago man, named King Solomon. Each week homework is expected and required reading as well. No more than an 1 per week. Students will be required to have their parents sign off on all incoming work. Bonus point for students whose parent(s) read with them.
Creative Art

Creative Arts is a mixed media art class that will create projects including 2D drawing and painting, that will teach perspective, shading, and value. Other projects include mosaics, wood burning, foil embossing, and print making (and more!).
Materials needed for first semester: Pencils, pencil sharpener, large eraser, black pen, black Sharpie, water color paints, 2 paint brushes (small @2 and medium @8, 10) ruler, scissors, and tacky glue. Supply Fee: $75 for the year

Introduction to American Sign Language (ASL) I & II, 8-12th
Mrs. John
This combined course introduces and expands students’ skills in American Sign Language (ASL) while fostering an appreciation of Deaf culture and history. Whether new to ASL or continuing from a previous year, students will develop receptive and expressive signing skills, cultural understanding, and the ability to communicate in meaningful, real-world contexts.
ASL 1 students will focus on foundational vocabulary, fingerspelling, grammar (including topic-comment sentence structure), everyday conversation, and basic storytelling techniques. Instruction will include visual-gestural communication, classifiers, facial expressions, and signed dialogues. Students will also explore the roots of Deaf culture, accessibility issues, and Deaf history through videos, discussions, and written reflections.
ASL 2 students will deepen their fluency through advanced storytelling, expressive performance, and more complex grammar and classifiers. Emphasis will be placed on visual poetry, Deaf art, and interpreting ideas and idioms across languages. Students will also lead projects, engage in Deaf community events, and reflect on broader issues such as language equity and inclusion.
