English 3 Course Description and Materials List

English Language Arts 3 is a high school level literature and composition class which prepares 9^th and 10^th grade students for future academic reading and writing. Students will read and analyze literature from a variety of genres, including poetry, short stories, full-length novels, drama, and non-fiction. In addition, frequent writing opportunities will allow students to become adept at making substantial, well-supported arguments which persuade and inform an audience. Student achievement will also be supported by explicit instruction in grammar, vocabulary, research and documentation, and study skills.

Required Materials:

$5.00 copy fee per student
Folder for homework and class materials
Composition book for in-class writing and note-taking
Access to a computer and a printer
Additional materials needed: 3 x 5 index cards
