Patrick’s exciting escape from captivity, and brandish our swords and shields with the knights of the Middle
Ages. Following our text’s well-written, easy to understand, chronological guide, we will start with the earliest
followers of Jesus in AD33 and span all the way to Johannes Gutenberg’s Printing Press in 1456. We will
cover Pompeii, the Golden Age of India, St. Augustine, Attila the Hun, King Arthur, legends and Saints, The
Great Chinese dynasties, germ warfare using the Black Plaque, among many, many other exciting adventues.
Hands-on activities, biographies, and projects will enhance their learning experience. The text will be

Welcome to the Middle Ages!

Hello Parents!

I am very excited to guide your students through the Middle Ages! My favorite part of History is watching how
God moves to accomplish His plan. I love pointing out to the students how God uses people and situations –
sometimes with their cooperation and sometimes not.
Our first quarter will cover from AD 29 through AD 476.

We will start with the growth of the early church. This will encompass:
– Pentecost and the early disciples
– The missionary journeys of Paul as Christianity spreads
– The spread of Rome at its pinnacle & several of the most notorious emperors
– The demise of Israel, including Masada & the last Jewish leader: Bar Kokh Ba
– The early saints – including some we think we know about, but not really! St. Valentine, St. Patrick and St. Columba
– We will camp on Constantine and St. Augustine and their huge influence on Christians

We will also travel around the world and learn about other cultures during this same time:
– The Golden Age of India and the Gupta Empires
– The Rise of the Maya
– Attila the Hun and other Barbarians who led to
– The Fall of the Roman Empire

It’s a lot to cover in one quarter so we will be hustling!
I will be handing out Audio CD’s the first day of school. In addition to the assigned reading, I am asking that
you listen to the lessons – your whole family may enjoy hearing the stories. Many students learn better by
listening – and it doesn’t hurt anybody to hear the lesson twice!

DAILY SUPPLIES
Your student won’t need to bring their book every day. I will note in the handout when they need to bring the
book. Your student will need 3×5 cards daily, as well as lined paper, pencils, erasers, colored pencils, glue
sticks, and scissors on a regular basis. PLEASE CHECK THEIR SUPPLY BOXES.
Participation Points are given daily for: arriving on time and prepared, good behavior, engaging in class.

Likewise, points are taken away for the opposite!

Homework is expected to be turned in on time. Late homework should be accompanied by a note from parent
explaining why and excusing the tardiness. Late homework will receive ½ credit if unexcused by parent.
It’s going to be an exciting and great year! If you ever have any concerned or questions, please, please call or
email right away. It is my desire that we all enjoy this year together!

Thank you!
