English 1 / Language Arts Course Description and Materials List
Instructor: Mrs. D. Esposito
ENGLISH 1 / LANGUAGE ARTS
The Language Arts 5/6 course is a fast-paced, academic class that I have previously taught for many years with great success. I desire to instill a love of grammar and the English language in all my students. This is an academically challenging course emphasizing grammar usage, both written and verbal. Through literary works corresponding with 5/6 History, students will learn summarization skills, creative writing techniques, spelling, and vocabulary. Finally, by the end of the year, students will be equipped to produce a five-paragraph MLA formatted essay.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES / EXPECTATIONS:
Fun, fun, fun…isn’t Grammar a blast?! While I run a very tight ship and require complete respect and attention from my students, I do it with lots of love. Each class day is filled with grammar instruction, oral language and memorization drills, writing instruction, and TONS of humor, encouragement, and enthusiasm from me! Students and parents will be given quarterly outlines to prepare them for daily class time and homework assignments. I do NOT accept late homework unless there is a sickness or prior agreement. All tasks are expected to be completed neatly and on time.
