Math 6 Course Description
Vine Academy 2025-2026
Mrs. Knapp, Instructor
Course Description
This course is targeted for 6th and upper 5th grade level and meets every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. From the textbook: “Build your students’ knowledge of the foundational math skills they’ll need for both everyday life and higher-level math. Units cover adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Equations, plane-figure geometry, measurement, ratios, statistics, probability, and integers are also covered.”
Assignment Policy
Homework is due at the beginning of class. Credit will be given when each problem shows work and effort. Answers without work shown will result in *no credit*. Homework turned in late will drop 10% per day unless parents notify me in advance that the student will be out of class. Complete all homework in pencil neatly.
Tests are assigned approximately every four weeks at the end of each chapter. Most will be taken at home and must be proctored by an adult. The use of class notes from the teacher-provided composition book are allowed and encouraged; calculators are not allowed unless otherwise stated.
Grading Scale
Homework 50%
Tests and Projects 40%
Participation 10%
While intermittent illness and family travel are normal during the school year, numerous class absences will negatively affect Participation. Tardiness affects not only the late student but interrupts the entire class; thus it will result in points taken from Participation.
